I today will proceed to look at a few Bible texts and venture into an explanation about things like the death of a baby. But please do not dump this on anybody that is still in shock and horror about a recent tragedy. The Bible has many psalms and a whole book devoted to lament and I think the first proper response to something that shakes you is simply to lament and cry. God welcomes that. God knows that in the initial stages the only language one can understand is that of empathy and compassion. I dare say you and I have no right to offer a rational explanation about God’s way if we haven’t first loved that person.
