The plant's aim is the industrialised recovery of valuable raw materials such as lithium, nickel, manganese and cobalt in a closed loop together with aluminium, copper and plastics, to achieve a recycling rate of over 90% in the long term. A 16 gigawatt hour battery cell factory will be built next to the component plant in 2020, with production to start in late 2023/early 2024 in a 50/50 joint venture with Swedish battery producer Northvolt.
